About Teen Tech Lab
This is a community tech event for the youth of Oakland, delivered through a collaboration with West Oakland Public Library! For this occasion, we introduced the teens to software through game design and coding! These workshops are provided throughout the year at no cost to participants.

The Workshop
During this 4-day workshop, teens design pixel art, sound effects, and digital music. We show them the game design process to emphasize the creative aspects of computer programming. Participants work in groups to collaborate on the design of their game.
Each day we developed a different part of the game and by the end of the week we use game design to bring those elements together. For this event, we used the incredible Pyxel engine, whose community demos provided an easy starting point for each project!
The Guild is here to mentor and encourage our youth by exposing their potential as software engineers!
Our Mission
Programmers Guild is Oaklands 1st tech guild and we're on a mission to build software while building stable, new paths for the next generation to do the same. Workshops like this are NOT about awing the kids with cool tech -- its about empowering them with technology.
All participants can go home with the knowledge, confidence and resources to continue their projects! We provide equipment and mentoring, while teaching them how to harness technology.
